In Which a Leonard Cohen Song Spoke to thwap

 Leonard Cohen's "On the Level" from You Want It Darker.  I met a lovely woman who later described us as "true kindred spirits."  Over the course of months, through meeting at social occasions, it became more and more obvious that we liked each other.  And she was lovely.  But she was half my age.  But she must  have thought I was super cool and that I wouldn't fall for her.  She (obviously) was more concerned with the long-term consequences of our age difference.  But we both fell for each other.  She told me it scared her how fast it happened.  So she broke it off after two months.  This song therefore doesn't match up with what happened word-for-word.  But I could have tried to talk her out of it.  I could have tried to change her mind.  I could have used all those "I can't live without you" arguments that infatuated people sometimes use.  But I didn't.  I told her she was right.  I also told her that I would always be happy that I'd met her.

 I don't care what happens now.  The fact that the dog cleared 3 Jenga blocks is enough for me to find it remarkable.

I watched a video by this guy narrating a speedboat accident and I decided to watch a few more throughout the day.  Then I saw that talented pooch.

Tempting World War III (Again)

 

First of all, it seems that the primary reason for the Hamas attacks was to sabotage the Israel-Saudi Arabia deal being orchestrated by the Biden administration.  Because it's so important for the future of humanity that Zionist assholes and the loathsome House of Saud support each other and the United States to continue to exploit the peoples of the world in the name of capitalism.

Palestinians in Gaza brought their sufferings upon themselves when they had the temerity to elect Hamas to power in 2007. Gazans turned to Hamas (supported in its early days by Israel as a rival to the PLO/Fatah) after the Fatah Party's peace deal with Israel not only failed to improve things for them but actually made things worse.

Israel is a viciously racist, lawless, apartheid state.  And many Jewish Israelis (there is a large non-Jewish Arab minority ... mainly Muslim) actively support it.  Many of these Jewish Israeli civilians cooperate or compel the Israeli state to cooperate with them in building illegal "settlements" on Palestinian lands in the West Bank.  They also, on their own accord, abuse Palestinians on a regular basis.  

But, apparently, to even mention this puts you on the same level as Adolph Hitler.  Meanwhile, liberal shit-heads and right-wing Evangelical Christian "End-Times Prophecies" lunatics can rage about the cultural failings of the Palestinians all they want without being racist (in their view anyway). 

Some Antidotes to the Tsunami of Racist Hypocrisy

 

As the state of Israel behaves with consistent brutality and racism, decade after decade, public opinion has slowly turned against them.  (You wouldn't know that from our shit-for-brains politicians and our shit-for-brains corporate media, bathed as they are, in the corruption of Zionist/US imperialist propaganda, and morally damaged by their own opportunism and cowardice.  These are the people who gave a former SS fighter a standing ovation in the House of Commons recently.  Complete fucking idiots.)

Last post I basically laid out my view of the international context of US-American - Russian relations and how they differ from people who believe that Vladimir Putin is a Hitleresque madman bent on conquest and that we must therefore support the USA's selfless assistance to democratic Ukraine's heroic resistance to his unprovoked invasion.  In this post I'll describe the unsatisfying result of my attempt to engage with one espouser of that shit-for-brains, ahistorical, ignorant position.

Part the First: Disagreeing

It's a damn tragedy, but decades of doing this shit has taught me that us humans aren't very good at letting facts get in the way of our beliefs.  COVID denialism is entrenched on both sides of the political spectrum.  Denial of global heating appears to be a mostly right-wing phenomenon.  I remember when, 3-4 years into the nightmare of bush II's invasion of Iraq a right-wing blogger asked me if I wasn't ready to admit that MY SIDE had been wrong about that issue while his had been right.  Centrists and leftwards still believe in the "Russiagate" stupidity.  Tribalism will make people turn on a dime.  When bush II was stealing elections it was progressives who were talking about crooked voting machines with proprietary software stealing votes.  A few months ago, now that Trumpistas are [erroneously and hypocritically] crying foul, a progressive blogger was pointing to these Trump fans' using that exact same argument as evidence of their insanity.
