I agree... I'm alternating between moments of hopefulness and concern. Given that the ideal situation is virtually impossible (the NDP getting a plurality of seats), I've lowered my expectations to:
1) The Conservatives win a fewer number of seats than last time.
2) The NDP finishes a strong second, blowing away the Liberals, and leads an effective opposition in the House.
That way, a message will still have been sent: while many Canadians are doing well enough to vote the same way as last time, a large number of Canadians are unhappy with the previous government... for once, try to be the government for all Canadians. (Yeah, I know, the "message" would be ignored...)
I will be extremely disappointed if the Conservatives maintain or increase their seat numbers. I will be incredulous, thrilled, ecstatic, and considering switching to an entirely orange-colored diet if the NDP wins.
Also kudos to you, thwap, for consistently finding time and subject matter to write about during the election campaign. Being an on-off blogger myself, I realize that it's tough sledding sometimes. :)
I used to hang around on rabble.ca's "babble" until May, 2006, and, since then, I've been found at www.enmasse.ca and www.breadnroses.ca. Even more lately, I've been at EnMasse, but also numerous blogs from the progressive side.
I'm sometimes rude to people and I've been accused of "schoolyard taunts," so, here's my schoolyard.
