Nothing Will Change Until We Change Society

Over on EnMasse, the intrepid TS directed our attention to a Globe & Mail report about how Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan knowingly handed prisoners over to torturers.

This apparently comes as some surprise to the G n' M editors, that a cynical imperialist venture would produce such nastiness. This is evidence of the high level of self-deception amongst liberal elites. It's not exactly rocket-science. We on the left anticipated and feared such behaviour from the beginning.

"Big deal. It's 'WAR.' Get over it." ... say the fascist wannabes.

None of this is going to change unless we radically change the direction our society is going towards. We have to change the political-economy, we have to change the culture, ... we have to change the philosophy.

I've got a big critique of an article from The Walrus in the works. But now, I have to finish my coffee.

So, you will bring us a socialist paradise like what they had in Russia? No thanks.

Perhaps like 1933 Germany? No thanks.

Your little experiements have been tried by mankind in the past. You would concentrate to much power into the hands of too few, and be the ruin of us all.

No thanks.

Which is to say that this present nightmare of inequality, oppression, and environmental destruction is the best form of human society you can envision?

How sad.

Democracy and Respect for Human Rights. Those are the principles any decent society must be based on.

And much greater individual liberty, with no one dependent upon a politician, or a boss, for their livelihood. That's servility.

Here's a look at anarchism from a right-wing libertarian perspective:

Anarchy?! I would rather have communisim. Too many people are like you, idiots. Last thing this planet needs is countries run by too many idiots, that is as bad if not worse then too many despots.

One only has to look back at Rawanda to witness the effect of too many idiots in power... People die, and in great many nmbers too, because you would sped all the critical time studying, and debating the best course of action, when what is really needed is action.

Bah, ... so we need more "action" from uninformed yahoos such as yourself?

Spare me.

Did you even read that link, Mr. "I'm the only one willing to debate"?

I'm not an anarchist, but I sympathize with many anarchist principles.

One of which is that power should be dispersed as much as possible and people ought to have the maximum amount of autonomy over their own lives.

The less power that gets into the hands of authoritarians, the better.
