Living Within A Degenerate Culture

So, we all remember (and cringe whilst doing so) when our House of Commons gave a standing ovation for a former member of the Waffen SS.  Apparently the stupid leadership of the Liberal Party of Canada were told that he had fought the Russians in World War II.  And, of course, Russia is our official enemy now.  And it therefore stands to reason that we've always been at war with Eurasia.  Or is it Eastasia?

Now, non-stupid people know that in World War II the Russians were our allies, as the Soviet Union, and our enemy was Nazi Germany.  And when I say "stupid people" I don't mean Crystia Freeland.  Because she's a smart, cunning individual who, for instance, wrote a book about economic inequality because that was a very trendy thing to do at the time to show your post-2008 Financial Crisis liberal bona-fides.  And she also reveres the memory of her horrid antisemite grandfather who was a Ukrainian fascist/Hitler ally.  So she damned well knew who that Hunka fellow was when she was applauding him.

On top of all that, if you're not completely pig-ignorant, you should know that Ukrainian fascists are a big part of the current US-installed Ukrainian government.  "Right Sector" and the Azov Battalion are out-and-proud fascists, and monuments to nazi collaborator/murderous antisemite Stephan Bandera have been popping-up all over Ukraine since the coup in 2014.  I mean, you know, if you're going to give money and military training to a foreign country, ... OUR TAX DOLLARS ... it would behoove you to know whether or not they're NAZIs?  No???

Now, some people have tried to bring some nuance to the decisions that made a teenaged Yaroslav Hunka decide to join the nazis to fight the Russians.  The Soviet Union, with its government in Moscow, headed by the Georgian, Josef Stalin, starved over a million Ukrainians to death in what is known as the Holdomor.  To avenge your countrymen you wouldn't really care who you were signin-up with.  "The enemy of my enemy is my friend."  Perhaps Yaroslave didn't investigate his new allies that thoroughly?

This is all very interesting.  Especially when you consider that the Israelis are currently deliberately starving two million Palestinians to death and that Canada is one of the countries providing all manner of support, including diplomatic cover, to Israel while it commits this act of genocide.  This support includes smearing Canadians who condemn this act of genocide as being possible antisemites.  And antisemites are bad because the nazis were antisemites and they killed the Jews.  But we applauded a former Waffen SS nazi in Parliament.  And we arm and train and fund the current nazis/antisemites in Ukraine.

But the Palestinians in Gaza are bad because they don't love the Israelis who abuse them and steal their land.  This makes them (especially Hamas!) "antisemites."  They hate the Israelis because they're Jewish.  The fact that the Israelis DO abuse the Palestinians is just a coincidence.  It would do the Israelis no good to stop abusing the Palestinians because the Palestinians would still hate them anyway.  Apparently.  Supposedly.

And, even if we can be understanding of teenaged Hunka for siding with the actual nazis against the Russians, because the Russians starved his people, ... we don't have any sympathy for the Palestinians currently being starved to death by Israel, because the Palestinians are incorrigible antisemites.  And there's no justification for that.  Even when the Israelis are committing genocide.

And, anyway, by not reporting on this genocide, by not mentioning this genocide, our nazi-supporting government helps the Canadian public to remain ignorant of any cause for the Palestinians to hate Israel.  I honestly believe that the majority of Canadians, while incurious about the world around them, would respond properly to the appropriate level of coverage that this Israeli genocide of the Palestinians would receive if our media were not part of a garbage culture of mass-murder and hypocrisy and racist contempt.

In reading your post i was interested in your comments on Freeland's grandfathers involvement as a nazi sympathiser. I had known this and certainly was aghast at what lengths she had gone through to dodge the issue.
In my thirst for an historic account I was led me to this article

https://www.wsws.org/en/articles/2019/07/29/cauk-j29.html

I think you will find it informative. I don't know if you are familiar with the reporting at +972 Magazine but you might wander over there and give it a view. I think you might be kept busy.

zoombats,

That WSWS article was pretty good. I'll check out that +972 Magazine tomorrow.
