Liberal Bloggers Putting Party Before Country

Going after NDP incumbents. Confusing voters in British Columbia, the Prairies, Quebec, etc., about who they need to vote for to defeat harper.

I'll be voting NDP where I live. A safe Liberal riding. I won't be telling anybody not to vote Liberal though. I'll be trying to get harpercons to switch their votes to anyone but harper.

I just thought that I'd put this up because looking at the "Progressive Bloggers" newsfeed makes me nauseous.

Party loyalty must be put aside this time for the greater good and that means voting for the candidate in your riding best positioned to defeat the Con, anything else is tantamount to a betrayal of the country.

Agreed with the post. But isn't the title the equivalent of a headline declaring "Water Wet"?

Especially true for my old riding - Edmonton-Strathcona where the NDP won by a hard-earned 400 votes in 2008.

Now I'm in a strong, but not guaranteed Liberal riding in Vancouver (won by >5%). The NDP candidate is not overwhelming, but I'm mixed about my MP (she's done some good things and some I dislike, but definitely better than a Con). Again, voting for the lesser evil is still promoting evil and I would rather my $2 go Orange than Red.

I have agreed with thwap on this from the start. As for the lesser evil thing, no disrespect intended here, but that's a little simplistic in this situation since the greater evil can damage our democracy so badly that it won't matter about the lesser evil or the good. Neither will have a system within which to work or express their will and rights.

At least with the Libs, should they get in with a minority, harper can't keep cutting off access to rights and expression. He can't keep deliberately undermining democracy so that it no longer gets in his way.

Libs, especially under Ignatieff, have some nasty policies, but crushing democracy isn't one of them, and with NDP kicking their ass, and with us remaining vocal and critical, we have a shot at real reform.

I admire thwap for being able to put partisanship aside for this, and that is inspiring. Instead of questioning greater/lesser evil, we should be looking at the greatest common good, and right now, that's getting harper out.

Then we will at least still have a voice to sort out the rest and work toward real reform.

Kev,

I'm prepared to debate that one with you in my case. The Liberal here won by over 4,000 votes.

I'm an active party member so I'll be working the phones, but I won't bother the Liberal voters. It's the harpercon supporters I'll try to turn.

Ian,

Your personal dilemma is a tough one. Maybe vote for the Liberal and send the NDP the $2 they lost later?

Jurist,

There have been some Liberal bloggers consistently trashing harper and praising their party, nothing wrong with that.

Others though, they turn my stomach.

900 F-J,

Thanks. This election, the stakes are too high for pettiness.

Let's make this election the turning of the tide. Let's make harper's recent act of contempt the nadir of Canadian politics and let's make sure that things only go up from now on.
