The Strange Death of Liberal Canada

I was travelling through the outskirts of Toronto today, and I saw one street (a main one) with lots n' lots of Liberal election signs. Big houses, big lawns. The perfect people to vote Liberal. Doing well. Imagine that you can be "progressive" just by not being a knuckle-dragging "conservative" idiot.

But I think those days of easy "progressivism" are becoming obviously dead. The frightened fascists and the totally ignorant greed-heads have their party of "tax-cuts and fuck everyone else" and I think a lot of people in fly-over country are realizing that the Liberal snake-oil of "tax-cuts and pretend to give a shit about everyone else" doesn't work for them anymore.

Pity poor Stephane Dion. Elected to maintain the Liberal tradition of English-French-English-French leaders, and to allow the campaigns of Rae and Ignatieff to continue in the wings. But also fated to lead a party that doesn't have any further justifications for its miserable existence.

Hopefully the Liberal Party of Canada will go the same way as the Liberal Party in the UK. Shee-it, it happened in Manitoba.
