We Have to Recover Lost Ground

Radicals and centrists will have to cooperate. Social Democrats, Liberals and libertarian socialists will have to cooperate. This is a death struggle for Canadian democracy. We will have to tolerate bourgeois corporate parties that at least respect the traditions of Parliament. (This excludes Liberals who continue to support the behaviour of Dalton McGuinty, who withheld information that the Ontario Parliament had every right to see and then cynically prorogued that legislature to make his problems go away.) By the same token Liberals, if an NDP candidate came second in your riding last time, then that is who you vote for, regardless of how dreamy looking Justin Trudeau is. (That skin! Those eyes! That hair!)

That is all.

Hat-tips to Montreal Simon and Saskboy.

And something tells me that the Green Party will wind up being a player in what lies ahead, thwap.

Oh yeah. After proportional representation, the more the merrier.

Let Elizabeth May keep her seat. I'll forgive her indulgence in that "Taliban Jack" bullshit.

Think of The Harper Government majority as Pandora's Box.. opened.. Job # 1 is get the lid jammed down, sit on it, then start nailing it down. Accomplish that absurdly critical mission and citizens can start try to bag and capture what escaped the box. Then we can try to repair the damage, reduce the toxins.. and determine how to go forward without repeating mistakes.

To reduce them to a minority government would be a blessing on the land. Harper would be ego torched toast and the sanctimonious, evangelical Conservative MP's and Ministers re-elected would be weak, exposed.. ready for time with their families.

To see Harper and Government fall via impeachment, ridicule, court proceedings would be nothing short of miraculous. For him to be allowed even two more omnibus 'budgets' to continue his savage attacks on our environment, democracy and Parliamentary process is unthinkable.

Salamander,

You're right. It's unthinkable. If he hadn't stolen his majority he'd be under investigation by now.

He has to be imprisoned as a warning to others and as a sign of the newly-found strength of a democratic people.

I'm offended that we even have to worry about a Conservative minority while Harper's bloody party is under investigation for widespread election fraud. If you'd have asked me two years ago if I foresaw this sad state of affairs, I'd have thought it a silly conspiracy theory. I was even sceptical in February that it was a legitimately large scandal. Now, it's not just because the country's future rides on it, but also because it's pretty damn huge to affect over 200 ridings in the span of the final days of the campaign. It's almost like it was well practised.

Saskboy,

I know. It's maddening.

They say misery loves company. Well, I bloody well am miserable enough to deserve a lot more company in the form of millions of Canadians unwilling to accept election fraud as a Canadian political reality.
