"There were only four of us, and he had a stapler."

The defence rests.

Whooee! Here's what I'd call counterpoint:

"German Police Free Berlin Train Station Hostage
Wednesday, November 21, 2007

German authorities overpowered a knife-wielding man who was holding another man hostage in Berlin’s main rail station, the Berlin Morning Post reported Wednesday.

According to the report the assailant, who appeared to be “mentally confused” and was possibly under the influence of drugs, held a waiter at a train station restaurant hostage for more than two hours. Armed police overtook the man and freed the hostage, the paper reported.

According to the report, the incident occurred at a cafe in a mall inside the terminal. Customers who witnessed the attack called police on their cell phones while fleeing the area. No one was hurt during the incident."

Here’s the link to the Fox News report. They got pitchers, too.

Thanks jimbobby.

You know, there have been times when I've been glad to see a cop.

And, actually, there were a lot of times when police stopped me because I tend to look like a suspect of some sort. (Especially when I was younger.) But in all those cases, the police were more than courteous to me. They were incredibly professional.

But the guys who posted on that blueline site, the guys who yammered on about the dangers they faced, and anyone who says they were justified in tasering Dziekanski, they lose all my respect.

If a little old lady goes into her purse to get the i.d. the cop demands of her, according to those wusses, the cop would be justified in blowing her head off because he started to shit worrying she was going to pull out a gun.

One question that's been running through my mind, is "what did the police do before there were Tasers?"

My understanding re: deployment of Tasers, is that it is the next to last reaction (before the pulling of the gun).

Their use nowadays seems to be the first thing deployed.

Damn, you're good.

diane,

You're right. You know I think that the idea behind tasers still makes a lot of sense. That's why I don't agree that they should be banned. But obviously, internal police operating procedures on tasers is entirely too lenient.

alison,

It took a few days, ... but the extent of the insanity sometimes takes a bit of time to penetrate.

I think that's a good thing over all.
