Jeeziz-H-Fucking-Christ! I went to DailyKos to look at the comics (as I tend to do from time to time because the only thing good at that site of hardcore Democratic Party cultists is the comics) and I saw in the right-had column a "Kossack" diary berating Trump for taking credit for the recently agreed to ceasefire that will supposedly be implemented on January 19th. I looked for it today but couldn't find it, but another "Kossack" posted something similar so I'll link to that one. (The one I saw yesterday included a video clip from Biden's announcement of the deal and responding to a question as to whether it was really Trump's achievement with a look of contempt and asking people around him "Is this a joke?")
Anyways, let's see how the cult members discussed the issue.
And here are these special, precious darlings discussing it in the comments section:
That’s never stopped him before. He can’t take credit for the great economy or lower inflation and unemployment either, but he will.
He already has taken credit and the media is sucking up and giving him at least partial credit. To be fair, according the WaPo reporting, Biden indicated that Trump’s Middle East Envoy was present at the end of the lengthy negotiations, although he did not take part in them, so classy Biden at least acknowledged the next administration will need to keep the peace. Apparently, the Quatar minister also acknowledged the presence of the Trump envoy in thanking everyone.
Part of his explanation about Trump’s envoy being involved when a reporter asked him if it was Trump that made the difference at the press conference:
And thirdly, I knew this deal would have to be implemented by the next team. So I told my team to coordinate closely with the incoming team to make sure we're all speaking with the same voice, because that's what American presidents do.
Was just about to say he’s already taking credit, but you beat me to it. You won’t hear him take responsibility for helping California though, not now, not ever.
He will, as you say, take credit for it, claiming Hamas was scared of him and “surrendered unconditionally” as a result. Later, he’ll simply claim the ceasefire happened under his administration, because he ignores timelines as freely as he does the rest of reality.
Too late.
Done and done. He has already taken credit and will take credit for every positive development the Biden administration put in motion. It's what he does, and frankly why he maintains his hold on voters. The man is beyond terrible at governing, all he has is taking credit for the success of others. He is, however a master of self promotion, something we should learn from. If Biden had taken a few more victory laps and rubbed his successes in their faces, we might not be looking at a second term with this blowhard.
As I said in my last post, this whole thing could be bullshit. Trump is beholden to the zionists and he's a racist Arab and Muslim hater. Why would he want a genuine ceasefire? Furthermore, Pestilence Naziyahoo's political survival depends upon keeping the wars going. [Right-wing blogger Larry Johnson has some coherent speculation as to what's going on here.] But the main question is where do these "Kossacks" get the idea that this was Biden's accomplishment?!? How do they make their case that Biden's policy of giving Naziyahoo everything he wanted to implement his genocide and making empty threats and covering for Israel's brazen disregard for those empty threats, somehow produce a ceasefire deal in the last few days of his presidency?
Some shit-heads are making references to the Ronald Reagan campaign bribing Iran to delay releasing the US-Embassy hostages until after the 1980 presidential election was over, so that Jimmy Carter couldn't claim it as an accomplishment. But Reagan and his team never admitted to their treason. The post-election hostage release was supposed to have "just happened." In 2025, Trump IS claiming responsibility and there are many articles citing Israeli and Arab sources that it was Trump's envoy who pressured Naziyahoo into accepting a deal.
Here's a not-bad Jimmy Dore Segment about Biden's claiming this was his accomplishment. It includes Biden saying "That a joke?" to a question as to whether he did it or Trump:
Here's Dave DeCamp at the libertarian site AntiWar.Com on how the relative influences of Biden and Trump are being reported:
Arab Officials: Trump Envoy Did More To Pressure Israel in One Meeting Than Biden Did All Year
Biden took credit for the Gaza ceasefire deal despite Trump's envoy being the key factor
Here's the Biden White House statement on the deal:
Today, after many months of intensive diplomacy by the United States, along with Egypt and Qatar, Israel and Hamas have reached a ceasefire and hostage deal. This deal will halt the fighting in Gaza, surge much needed-humanitarian assistance to Palestinian civilians, and reunite the hostages with their families after more than 15 months in captivity.
I laid out the precise contours of this plan on May 31, 2024, after which it was endorsed unanimously by the UN Security Council. It is the result not only of the extreme pressure that Hamas has been under and the changed regional equation after a ceasefire in Lebanon and weakening of Iran — but also of dogged and painstaking American diplomacy. My diplomacy never ceased in their efforts to get this done.
What a load of tripe! By the way, did you know that I built the CN Tower? It took WEEKS of "intensive" labour, utilizing "precise" building methods, and "dogged and painstaking" efforts for me to achieve that all on my own. Sometimes I got a little tired, but I "never ceased in [my] efforts to get ['er] done."
[Feel like mentioning that the senile octogenarian Biden took some time out from babbling uselessly about the Los Angeles fires to tell us he's a great-grandfather. Which is kind of sickening when you think about all the children, grand children, great grandchildren, mothers, fathers, grandparents, great grandparents that he's murdered during his political career.]
I feel I should add (before I forget) another headline that filled me with contempt: "Trudeau says Canada is ready to ensure success of Gaza ceasefire deal." As if anybody, anywhere in the world gives a fuck as to what Canada (let alone the soon to be ex-prime minister Trudeau) thinks or does! Well, maybe it'll be good for a laff. Let's see what the airhead bimbo has to say ...
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau welcomed the news of a ceasefire deal reached between Israel and Hamas on Wednesday and said that the focus should now shift toward ensuring a two-state solution.
"Canada stands ready to do whatever it can to ensure the success of this agreement," Trudeau told reporters during an unrelated news conference with Canada's premiers.
"This ceasefire gives us hope. Hope that we can now focus our attention on a true, lasting political solution to this conflict — a two-state solution with Israelis and Palestinians living side-by-side in safety, security and dignity," he said.
First of all, Justin, stupid, you're leaving politics. There's nothing you can do. It's going to be out of your hands in around a month. Secondly, if you actually cared about ending the genocide you would have done much more to pressure Israel while the genocide was being carried out. Instead you aided and abetted that genocide. And, finally, shut the fuck up about a "two-state solution" when you continue to do nothing about zionist expansion into the West Bank. Can you not stop with the lies and the hypocrisy even now???
Finally, in producing this post, I saw a headline at AntiWar.Com that I have to check out: 'Why Aren't You in The Hague?' Journalist Sam Husseini Gets Dragged Out of Blinken's Last Press Conference.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken held his final press conference on Thursday and was confronted about his support for Israel’s genocidal war in Gaza by two veteran reporters, including independent journalist Sam Husseini, who was dragged out of the room while telling Blinken he belonged in The Hague.
Max Blumenthal, founder of The Grayzone, disrupted Blinken’s opening statement, saying, “Three hundred reporters in Gaza were on the receiving end of your bombs, why did you keep the bombs flowing when we had a deal in May? … “Why did you sacrifice the rules-based order on the mantle of your commitment to Zionism? Why did you allow my friends to be massacred?”
Blumenthal continued to pepper Blinken with questions as he was escorted out of the room. “Are you compromised by Israel? Why did you allow the Holocaust of our time to happen? How does it feel to have your legacy be genocide?”
...
“I am justified in what I’m doing,” Husseini said. After a moment of calm, armed security personnel approached Husseini and began ripping him out of his seat.
As he was being dragged out, Husseini said to Blinken, “Answer a damn question! Do you know about the Hannibal Directive? Do you know about Israel’s nuclear weapons? … You pontificate about a free press!”
Blinken told Husseini to “respect the process,” to which Husseini replied, “Respect the process? Respect the process? While everybody from Amnesty International to the ICJ says Israel’s doing genocide and extermination, and you’re telling me to respect the process? Criminal! Why aren’t you in the Hague?”
Blinken is such a meritless, shit-assed disease. He is a war criminal. A blood-soaked, racist piece of human garbage.
This morning I read Caitlin Johnstone's account of Blumenthal's and Husseini's principled stand against the cretinous, untalented, less-than-useless Blinken. She includes the response of the other "journalists" who stood there to listen to Blinken's self-serving lies:
The western political-media class is expressing outrage over the incident, not because of journalists being manhandled for asking critical questions of their government, but because those journalists asked critical questions.
The talking heads on CNN described the journalists interrogating government officials as “cringeworthy heckling by activists”, initially expressing bafflement at how those “activists” could have gotten into a press room intended for accredited journalists (both Blumenthal and Husseini are in fact members of the press who often attend State Department press briefings).
Longtime State Department swamp monster Aaron David Miller tweeted of the exchange, “In 27 years at State, never seen a situation where a Secretary of State — a caring compassionate man — is heckled in his own building by a heckler yelling ‘Why aren’t you in The Hague.’ A new low in civility and discourse.”
This is western liberalism in a nutshell. The problem isn’t the genocide, the problem is people being insufficiently polite about the genocide. Western officials feeling inconvenienced and insulted is a greater concern than children being shredded and burned by US military explosives.
I can't believe that a political system so completely morally and intellectually bankrupt as zombie neoliberalism can persist. Yet it does.
