CBC - "Policy change delayed alarm signal over listeria, inspectors say"
Inspectors said had the alarm bells been sounded earlier, lives could have been saved.
"Bells and whistles would have been sounding if [Maple Leaf officials] had to report positive test findings to an inspector," said one Toronto area CFIA inspector who spoke to the CBC and the Star on the condition of anonymity for fear of reprisals.
"We might not have had anybody dead [if company officials were still obligated to report positive listeria findings]. It's terrible."

[Here comes the "elitism" part!] So, what drooling idiot voters will be immune to such a clear example of the murderous level of dogmatism amongst the "Conservative" Party of Canada? These governments kill people. Even after they've been warned, even after boatloads of evidence that the self-regulation of profit-maximzing industries is a contradiction in terms? What am I missing that would make me think somebody bone-stupid enough to like Stephen Harper is actually a sensible, rational and informed person on some sort of level?

Sad that being sentient has become the domain of the elite.
How many dead bodies have to pile up before a scandal sticks to Harper?
And speaking of dead bodies, I read at Montreal Simon's blog that the Canadian military has suspended missions during the election. So the situation is safe enough not to sacrifice Canadian lives during the election but not so much before or after?
"Your deaths would be politically inconvenient for His Excellency Stephen Harper. Fear not! You can go on manly missions and risk death once he's safely re-elected."
