Furthermore, the services you're asking for -- if they were authorized -- would place the Canadian Forces in competition with the private sector, at the local or provincial level, which could perform this type of repair work.Ah! Aahh, I knew there had to be a catch. I saw a news item when Toews said something sensible about prisons not being the place to treat mental illness, so there had to be something like this to restore balance in the universe
What is so wrong with using mercenaries? Mercenaries have been around as long as people have fought wars. They must be doing something right if it is an option that is still on the table.
And I thought this would have been self-evident to a brainiac like yourself, but I guess it will have to be spelled out for your itty bitty pinky brain: a tank makes rubble. It isn't very good at clearing rubble. Bulldozers are much better at that sort of thing. Private contractors, surprise, surprise, have bulldozers.
Rifle butts could be used to pound nails into wood. But it really isn't the right tool for the job. For that, you need a hammer. And surprise, surprise, private contractors have hammers and are skilled at using them.
Could it be that *gasp* the private sector is the place you want to turn to when you need construction work done.
