Just yesterday I read on Mondoweiss about this "aid" program to the Palestinian Authority:
Around two dozen Canadian troops and “up to 12” RCMP officers are currently part of Operation Proteus, which trains PA security forces as part of a mission led by the Office of the United States Security Coordinator. Initially in charge of organizing the PA force, US General Keith Dayton told the Associated Press in 2009, “We don’t provide anything to the Palestinians unless it has been thoroughly coordinated with the State of Israel and they agree to it.”
In Security Aid: Canada and the Development Regime of Security, Jeffrey Monaghan details Canada’s role in turning Palestinian security forces in the West Bank into an effective arm of Israel’s occupation. Monaghan describes a $1.5 million Canadian contribution to Joint Operating Centers whose “main focus … is to integrate elements of the Palestinian Authority Security Forces into Israeli command.”
Like all colonial authorities throughout history Israel looks to compliant locals to take up the occupation’s security burden. What is unique about the training and support for the PA security forces is the role of Canadian, British and US trainers. Adam Shatz wrote, “it is an extraordinary arrangement: the security forces of a country under occupation are being subcontracted by third parties outside the region to prevent resistance to the occupying power, even as that power continues to grab more land.”
Canada’s role in training, equipping and assisting the PA force began in earnest after Hamas won legislative elections in 2006. To sow division within Palestinian society, Ottawa cut off aid and refused to recognize a Palestinian unity government. When Hamas officials were ousted from the Palestinian unity government in June 2007, Ottawa devoted significant resources to creating a Palestinian security force “to ensure that the PA maintains control of the West Bank against Hamas,” as Canadian Ambassador to Israel Jon Allen was quoted as saying by the Canadian Jewish News. In 2010 deputy foreign minister Peter Kent said Operation Proteus received “most of the money” from a five-year $300 million Canadian “aid” program to the PA. Today, Operation Proteus receives $15 million per year directly and more funding indirectly.
So, not only are the fuck-faces in the Liberal government providing diplomatic cover and continued weapons sales to the genocidal shit-hole country of Israel, we're also helping the corrupt, Quisling Palestinian Authority dictatorship suppress the resistance of its own people. And our "government-in-waiting" of grifters and closet-cases and/or religious freaks and all-around mental defectives, Pierre Poillievre's Conseravties, are screeching that we're not doing enough to help the genocide along.
I don't care if your stupid devotion to Israel is based on the confusion of your tiny mind about concepts such as "antisemitism" or "The Holy Land" or "terrorism." I don't care if you're stupid or an evil, racist imperialist. Either way, you're a contemptible piece of garbage.
I was going to mention Canada's deplorable deployment to Afghanistan and then I remembered these new revelations about the Afghan militias being such a nightmare for the people of Afghanistan that they served as great recruiters for the Taliban:
This week, the New York Times reported that the U.S. government made war in Afghanistan while helping to “recruit, train and pay for lawless bands of militias that pillaged homes and laid waste to entire communities.” Those militias “tortured civilians, kidnapped for ransom, massacred dozens in vendetta killings and razed entire villages, sowing more than a decade of hatred toward the Afghan government and its American allies.”
Written by a former Kabul bureau chief for the Times, the article appeared under a headline saying that “U.S.-backed militias” in Afghanistan were “worse than the Taliban.”
Now they tell us.
Afghanistan, Haiti, Libya, Venezuela, Palestine. Our racist treatment of the First Nations. Canada is a stupid country run by selfish, psychopathic assholes. And the Canadian people, by voting for Conservatives and Liberals, by revealing themselves as absolutely ignorant of the traditions of pseudo-democracy that give them any sort of leverage against our oligarchs, and by showing themselves as too fucking lazy to learn about them, show themselves to be a stupid, bovine collective. We spend our lives sleep-walking, comforting ourselves with half-believed fairytales during moments of crisis.
