Trump's Gestapo & Leftist Failure

 

It's might be all over in the USA.  Trump's Triple-B bill, "Big Beautiful Bill" passed.  It included billions in funding for ICE, the agency that can grab anyone off the street for any reason and send them to some hell-hole overseas or within the USA itself, without any sort of legal oversight or rescue.  Trump now has his own personal police force.  His Gestapo.

Obviously this is a pile of steaming garbage. Four trillion of tax cuts, paid for by cutting Medicaid (11.8 million people will lose health care according to the CBO) and perhaps 8 million people will lose food benefits under SNAP. Green energy subsidies are cut (no, shut up, there are tons of dirty energy subsidies) and there’s a huge budget increase for ICE (including more prison camps), America’s Gestapo.

How did we get here?  Let's consider a few things: Trump's BBB passed in it's entirety.  Biden's BBB ("Build Back Better") was broken up.  On purpose.  So that the parts that benefited business were passed while the things that benefited ordinary people were abandoned.  (They weren't openly abandoned.  Biden and the corporate Dems just pretended that they believed their Repugnican "colleagues" would later approve them after having gotten everything their paymasters demanded.)

For all that, there WERE lots of good, smart things in Biden's legislation.  At least when compared with the delusions of Trump and his MAGA advisors of racist shit-heads.  But the Democrats policies were always weak sauce compared to what the average US-American wants or needs.  Plus, Biden is a genocidal war criminal who should have been hanged by the neck until dead for his contribution to the holocaust in Gaza.

The "left" should have openly broken with the Democratic Party USA after Obama.  But, besides party loyalty, mental inertia, and cowardice, ... there was always some Repug threat that made everything "the most important election of our lifetime."  And, with Trump, we see how tactically stupid that was.  The Democrats should have been forced to take their lumps a long time ago.  Maybe they would have learned something.

Or, maybe not.  The Democratic leadership apparently seems happy to let Trump be a huge disaster and then they can waltz into "power" again, presiding over a political culture that is even more extreme-right and pro-oligarch.  They can then be less amazingly insanely bad than the Repugs while nothing really changes.

That's assuming that Trump's fascist inclinations don't allow him (or someone aligned with him) to roll-up the whole process whereby the electorate has any say whatsover.

But what of the ACTUAL left?  While a Jewish nazi like Stephen Miller is successfully emulating Heinrich Himmler, the left continues to take it on the chin.  Sure, there are victories here and there.  In Seattle, in the recent Democratic primaries for NYC mayor, ... but for the most part, the left is getting the crap beaten out of it, in the USA, in Canada, in Europe.  We either allow ourselves to be abused (like Corbyn at the hands of the Blairites, or AOC at the hands of that idiot Pelosi) or we embrace the shit-headdery whole-heartedly, like the NDP or the European Greens on NATO.

We need a strategy.  We need a counter-narrative.  We need more than pointless marches and chanting.
