Despite his bluster, Trump was sensing that his moment had passed. The Supreme Court struck down his tariffs. His raping of adolescent girls was going to come back to haunt him. Whatever he thought would be the results of his economic policies, the reality is that the people are worse off than they were before. And this includes those who believed he'd bring prices down soon after his inauguration. He doesn't know what to do about the Russia-Ukraine war because he's delusional and stupid. He genuinely believes the garbage about Russia's having suffered over a million dead from wasteful "human wave" assaults for which there is no photographic evidence. Therefore he thought that Putin was desperate for peace at any price. At the same time, Trump very much wanted to exploit and humiliate Ukraine. So he pursued a contradictory policy of insulting both parties in the war and has consequently achieved nothing. He has successfully created a racist gestapo in ICE (while the pathetic Democrats have done nothing to restrain them other than to request they wear body-cams to record their criminal behaviour) but he has been disappointed that the bulk of the US-American people don't share his racist glee at the abuse of brown people. In his ignorance and stupidity he didn't anticipate the cratering of support for him from Latinos as they all find themselves targets for racist abuse from ICE agents (some of whom are Latinos themselves, because racists are uniformly stupid people).
But with regards to Iran, his policy has been grounded in delusion, ignorance, racist contempt, hatred of Barack Obama and subservience to zionists. Zionists fund him. Zionists have video evidence of his rapes. And zionists are insane. Zionists believe that their genocidal behaviour is justified (if they even think it needs to be justified).
Trump tore-up the Obama-negotiated Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPA) because (as I said) he hated Obama because Obama is Black and Trump is a racist, and because he hates Iran because they are the USA's long-standing Muslim enemy and he's an ignorant, racist shit-head.
He thought that cruel sanctions would compel the Iranians to completely surrender their sovereignty because the USA is a titan and Iran is a worthless "shit-hole" of a country. When Iran didn't capitulate and, instead, developed its military capabilities (defensive and offensive) Trump wasn't able to mentally process it.
Last summer's "12 Day War" was a rude awakening for both the USA and Israel. But it was only a partial awakening. Iran's relatively restrained response to Israel's aggression was interpreted by the maniac Netanyahu and the imbecile Trump as evidence of limited capabilities. How else to interpret both men's deluded belief that a greater amount of military hardware will convince the Iranians to unilaterally disarm and abandon their civilian nuclear program in return for only a potential relief from sanctions?
Still, a small part of Trump's brain, as well as analysis from military advisors, made Trump dimly aware that attacking Iran could prove disastrous. But this understanding wasn't sufficient to overcome his delusions, his stupidity, his subservience to zionism, his awareness of his dwindling political power. He'd backed himself into a corner. Some reports said he was genuinely confused that his assembling of military force didn't make the Iranians capitulate. Trump might be aware of the acronym "TACO" which means "Trump Always Chickens Out." It was mainly a reference to his pulling back from threats of huge tariffs, but it also mocked his tendency to have to retreat from stupid things like threatening to conquer Greenland. Some analysts believed that Trump would grab at a concession from the Iranians and build it up into something bigger than it was, declare a great victory and slink away.
That turned out not to be the case. The Iranians offered considerable concessions and still Trump declared war.
Pressed for specifics, Albusaidi said that Iran committed during the talks to renounce the possibility of amassing “nuclear material that will create a bomb”—a pledge that Trump claimed Iran refused to make as part of his justification for Saturday’s strikes.
“This is something that is not in the old deal that was negotiated during President Obama’s time,” Albusaidi said, referring to the 2015 nuclear accord that Trump ditched during his first term in the White House. “This is something completely new. It really makes the enrichment argument less relevant, because now we are talking about zero stockpiling. And that is very, very important, because if you cannot stockpile material that is enriched, then there is no way you can actually create a bomb, whether you enrich or don’t enrich. And I think this is really something that has been missed a lot by the media, and I want to clarify that from the standpoint of a mediator.”
The man who wanted a Nobel Peace Prize and routinely lied about having ended eight wars deliberately ignored all the off-ramps to war.
So what's going to happen now?
Iran's retaliation might be moderate. Perhaps Israel will accept that the time when it could dominate the region has passed and the USA will understand that Iran will not capitulate and, with the help of Russia and China and other nations, forge an acceptable existence outside of the US-dominated international order. Adjusting to this new reality, accepting a multi-polar world, will require some painful psychological adjustments for the arrogant USians and Israelis, but adjust they will.
Alternatively, Iran could respond with a massive retaliation. Perhaps they believe that any casualties on the USA's or Israel's side will enrage them and they might as well go all in from the start. Or, perhaps, the Iranians patience has simply come to an end. They have suffered from the USA's meddling in their affairs since the 1950's. They have been an isolated pariah state since the 1980's. The USA assisted Iraq when Saddam Hussein invaded them. The USA shot down an Iranian civilian airliner and then gave a hero's welcome to the ship that fired the missile. Trump unilaterally tore-up the JCPA and increased sanctions. And, obviously, under the cover of negotiations, Trump and Israel illegally attacked Iran. In that war it was clear that Iran could wipe Israel off the map. Israel is so hated in the world that few countries outside of the USA's immediate vassals (such as Canada and the EU) would mind.
Iran cannot defeat the USA. But it can inflict a lot of damage if it chooses to do so. The USA is at the far end of a long supply chain. It has already expended a lot of its missile and missile defence systems in Ukraine since 2022 and to protect Israel in 2025. And its weapons manufacturers have demonstrated their inability to increase their output. China's control of rare-earth minerals will ensure that the USA will continue to be limited in weapons production. US bases in the region could be completely overrun. Fighter planes will be shot down. Ships will be sunk. Thousands of military personnel will be killed.
America's propaganda system and human stupidity can achieve mighty things, but the reality that Trump is a corrupt, rapist pedophile, and that he started this war and he did so mainly at Israel's behest will undercut US-Americans' "patriotism" and delusional self-righteousness.
Israel might launch nuclear weapons, but Iran is a large country. Millions will die, but Iran's missiles will keep coming. Israel is a tiny country geographically and if they go nuclear Iran will utterly destroy it.
What happens to the degenerate Gulf dictatorships when Israel is gone, pro-Iranian militias control Iraq, and officers in the dicatorships' military and police who despise their leaders respond to the new situation by rising up? The USA's control over the region could completely evaporate.
