All throughout the ongoing genocide in Gaza, if you only read CBC News, you could be forgiven for not grasping that a genocide is happening. So little did they, and have they, reported on it. (This would not be the case for readers of the National Pestilence, which celebrates it with perverted glee, like the racist subhumans that they are.)
I suppose the same could be said about the Russia-Ukraine War. There you would have followed a progression; from Russia's dastardly "unprovoked" assault, to their subsequent unspeakable war-crimes, to their massive losses and incompetence combined with their grave threat to rest of Europe despite those losses and incompetence, arriving at the "stalemate" as plucky Ukraine continues to resist. (Case in point of the mainstream media's garbage coverage was their reporting that the [fascist] Azov Battalion's being "evacuated" from Mariupol. When, by "evacuated" they meant "surrendered into captivity.")
If you blinked you might have missed the perfunctory mentioning of Putin's attempts to negotiate a security agreement with NATO based on formalizing Ukraine's traditional neutrality and their dismissal by NATO leaders. Perhaps the CBC provided some brief accounts of the massive corruption that diverted NATO military and financial assistance for Ukraine into the black market and the bank accounts of prominent Ukrainian oligarchs, politicians and fascists. Some US mainstream media reported briefly on these matters so it's possible the CBC did as well.
But the main point is that from any of these mainstream propaganda outlets, you would never know that Ukraine has lost at least 500,000 men while Russia's losses are only around 100,000 (as opposed to the million dead that NATO claims).
I've noticed the same sort of stupidity when it comes to reporting about the USA and Israel's illegal attack on Iran. Let's look at today's headlines as a case in point:
U.S. secretary of war says bombing campaign 'just getting started' as Iran conflict enters 5th day
Hegseth trumpets reduced Iranian capabilities, death of official charged with Trump assassination
Here we notice that the voice of the USA is given prominence. This is the main headline at the CBC News homepage. No mention is made that this war is a "supreme international crime" committed by the USA and Israel. It is the "Iran conflict" and not an "unprovoked" USA-Israel illegal war of choice.
And, apparently, Iran is clearly losing. Drunken, delusional, stupid Pete Hegseth says so! I'll say that from my access to alternative news sources in the past few days that I'm aware that Iran has destroyed vital and expensive US radar installations at bases in the Arab puppet-dictatorships. That the USA has already lost three fighter-jets. (These losses have been attributed to "friendly fire" but see Larry C. Johnson for why this strains credulity.*) Tel Aviv and other parts of Israel have already been hit by an Iran that hasn't yet started using its fastest, most powerful missiles. I don't recall reading ANYTHING about the destruction of the radar facilities at the CBC. I might have seen some reports about damage in Israel from Iranian attacks at the CBC. But those might be false memories, based on transferring what I've seen at alternative news sites to the CBC. If the CBC did report on those strikes they did it with an emphasis on Israeli suffering and courage. (With nothing about the well-reported barring of Palestinians with Israeli citizenship from Israeli bomb-shelters that you can find at those alternative news sites.)
No. Instead, as with Ukraine in the first two years of the conflict with Russia, it's all going swimmingly for "our side."
And, if you care, apparently the dastardly Iranians were going to attempt to assassinate the racist, pedophile, grifter, abomination Trump. But Hegseth says they took out the assassin. Whether any of that is true, the assassination of Iran's supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, is reported by the CBC as if such a murder is a standard aspect of international diplomacy.
"Another takeaway from today is that Hegseth says the U.S. killed an Iranian official who allegedly headed a unit to carry out an assassination of U.S. President Donald Trump.
'The leader of the unit who attempted to assassinate President Trump has been hunted down and killed. Iran tried to kill President Trump, and President Trump got the last laugh,' Hegseth said.
Hegseth didn't name the official, but said the operation took place yesterday.
Of course, the joint U.S.-Israel operation in Iran brought the death of Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Saturday.
Hegseth said the U.S. will continue to target Khamenei's potential successors — something Israel has also threatened."
Let's remember: Hegseth is a military veteran. He's also a war criminal. After committing war-crimes in Iraq he joined an outfit seeking to recruit other veterans to support the Republican Party. In the capacity as the head of that organization Hegseth was widely reported as using his position to abuse his expense account, promote women who would have sex with him, and drink himself stupid in public on a regular basis.
Such a boorish imbecile's utterances should be treated with skepticism rather than repeated by mainstream media stenographers.
Notice: Rather than say "The USA and Israel assassinated Ayatollah Ali Khamenei" they write "the joint US-Israel operation in Iran brought the death of Iran's Supreme Leader."
What garbage!
Let's see what else we have:
"Outsourcing the ground attack"
This isn't bad actually. It discusses the USA having trained Iranian Kurds to fight the Iranian military, but how there's no way they could prevail against the Iranian military. They could occupy a portion of it and cause problems though. Kudos for the reporter for mentioning:
I asked Thomas Juneau, a Canadian national security analyst about the possibility of the U.S. outsourcing the ground invasion to Iran's estimated five million Kurds.
"It's very difficult to see anything good happening out of this," he said. "There's a long history of the U.S. and others abandoning the Kurds when it doesn't suit them, and then making them extremely vulnerable."
That was refreshingly honest.
Farewell for Iran's supreme leader postponed
Clearly, this is the most important news to convey at this moment. That, due to the USA's and Israel's illegal carpet-bombing of Tehran, they cannot give their assassinated former supreme leader a public funeral. Obviously, publishing such drivel at this moment in time is meant to convey that Iran is on the ropes. (Just like Russia was running out of weapons in 2022 and Putin's support has been evaporating along with his brain, and "the walls were closing in" on Trump because of the bullshit corporate media's "Russiagate" propaganda.)
North American financial markets have calmed
Ninety-percent of stocks are owned by the wealthiest 10-percent of the population. Which is to say, by the people who count. The people who the CBC really serves. So, of course, the fact that the stock market hasn't collapsed after the first day or so of this insane war is of crucial importance.
Death toll in Iran climbing
Yes. They're being murdered by US and Israeli indiscriminate bombing. Something the CBC would be writing big articles with loads of pictures and interviews from the victims were the bombs falling from Russian planes and the missiles being fired by the Russian military. But they're only Iranians and so it's merely a "death toll" that is "climbing."
Canadian consular team at Turkey-Iran border
More than 103,000 Canadians registered in region: Anand
Could Turkey trigger NATO's Article 5?
These are all semi-important stories, given that this is the CBC and Canada is a member of NATO and Turkey is a member of NATO and therefore Turkey's ambiguous relationship with both NATO, Israel and Iran makes this interesting to say the least. But (as Yves Engler points out) Canadians are probably already involved in this illegal, unprovoked aggression (beyond Mark Carney's simpering anus licking). Perhaps the CBC could inform Canadians about that as well???
U.S. submarine sank Iranian ship in attack that killed at least 87
How control of the skies changes this fight
Hi, I'm David Common, reporting from Tel Aviv.
During this morning's news conference, Gen. Caine said the United States will control Iranian skies within days. That means the U.S. can fly their own planes over all of Iran without the risk of being shot down. To do that, they are confident of being able to destroy all of Iran's anti-aircraft weapons.
That shifts from the current situation, where American and Israeli operations can only fly planes over southern Iran.
They have been using what are called "stand-off weapons," or munitions fired from far enough away that the adversarial force doesn't have the reach to shoot back. Fighter planes, ships, submarines and land-based units are firing missiles far from their targets.
Once they control the skies, they can use "stand-in weapons," which are cheaper and more plentiful. They allow planes to drop weapons directly on a target, often using gravity.
This would have been a perfect time to mention how the USA has lost three of its planes. To mention that Iran has its own high-tech air defences, plus the latest resources, including technology and intel, from Russia and China.
Hegseth asked about mission's detractors
Reporters have asked Hegseth about those who've voiced disagreement with Operation Epic Fury.
China and Russia, for example, have raised concerns about the U.S. and Israel attacks on Iran.
"I don't have a message for them, and they're not a factor here. Our issues aren't with them," Hegseth said.
Another reporter also asked Hegseth about Democratic House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries' comments that this operation will result in "failure" — yet another signal of the intense political division in the U.S. right now.
"I've been through that movie before, with the Democrats rooting against our country," Hegseth replied.
I've said before that Hegseth is an alcoholic moron. A war criminal. A shit-for-brains sadist. Rather than acting as stenographers for his boozy ramblings, perhaps the CBC could find someone sober to provide an evisceration of the incompetent ignoramus blowhard's garbage?
(Here I'm going to go beyond the CBC's stupidity. Today I've been reading that both Trump and Hegseth say that they're prepared for a long war. Trump incoherently yammered that the USA has "limitless" munitions, but that they were simultaneously frittered away by Biden gifting them to Ukraine and other ingrate nations. Hegseth meanwhile, has been stammering that it is Trump who controls "the pace and the tempo" of this war and that it could last less than a week or it could last for months. Perhaps I missed something, but I don't recall any "journalist" asking the fuck-face WHY Trump would let this last for a month. If I'm wrong, correct me in the comments. I don't usually read the garbage produced by these charlatans that closely.)
* "Iran also appears to have downed three F-15 combat aircraft. US Central Command insists that the planes were downed by friendly fire, but that is nonsense. The official US military report admits that Iranian aircraft had been engaging them at a time when “air superiority” was allegedly long established. Those planes carried IFF (i.e., Identification Friend or Foe), which is basically an encrypted “question and answer” radio system that lets radars and other aircraft positively recognize it as friendly. Before flight, ground crew or aircrew load crypto keys (for secure modes like Mode 4/5) into the IFF using a fill device, and set required mission codes. In flight, when the fighter appears on someone’s radar, that radar or airborne interrogator sends a coded challenge. The jet’s transponder:
• Recognizes the interrogation mode and code.
• Uses its loaded crypto to generate a valid encrypted response if the challenge is correct.
• Transmits a reply on a reply frequency that includes ID, and in some modes altitude or other data.
In other words, US CENTCOM wants you to believe that the IFF on three planes failed or that the crews operating the Patriot missile batteries failed to recognize the IFF signals. If it was just one plane I would be inclined to believe CENTCOM’s explanation… But three? Sorry, this is Male Bovine Excrement.
