Just spent the morning [June 21st, 2024] reading about the insane US-proxy war against Russia that is being fought by the Ukrainians. How it might lead to nuclear war. The Biden administration is getting everyone alarmed about Russia and China and is acting delusionally, as if war with those two countries and their allies is inevitable and also winnable.
Also reading about heat deaths being caused by 50+ degrees Celsius temperatures around the world caused as global heating begins to go into overdrive and our governments do nothing serious about it.
Also, there's the ongoing live-streamed genocide of the Palestinians being conducted by the Israelis and (once again) the "lesser evil" Biden administration.
And, of course, there's the continued powerlessness of the working class and the continued deterioration of our material circumstances as "zombie neoliberalism" wrings all the wealth it can from a stagnant economy.
In the face of these disasters, what is the response of the "Left"? The usual blathering about protests and petitions and "fighting back" and using our voice apparati to make the sound "revolution."
I take no pleasure in saying that we're failing. I'm not trying to piss anyone off by saying that we're failing. I'm trying to penetrate the pathological instinctive optimism and hope and delusion that my fellow leftists appear to inhabit wherein they see "victories" where there aren't any. They see coherent strategies where there aren't any. They believe (as most people do) that they have forever in which to work through their problems to arrive at the inevitable victory.
Because we DON'T have forever. It is unlikely, but if a nuclear war does break out as a result of the Ukraine crisis (or a Taiwan crisis) it could do so within as little as a year, and then that will be it. Global heating is set to spiral out of control (perhaps it's already too late). The oligarchy seems to stupidly believe that fascism is an acceptable development from out of their selfish policies of asset-stripping and price-gouging and oligopolist market manipulation and austerity. (Cocooned in their bubbles of comfort and privilege and narcissism, oligarchs are even more likely to believe that all is going to work out for the best.)
If we need to do something big, then let us do so. Come up with something big! And then try to come up with a strategy to achieve it.
Why is this so hard?
Why do so many on the left continue to believe that we can peacefully march and chant our way to Heaven? Why do we continue to believe that we can petition our psychopathic, amoral overlords to do what we want as opposed to what they want?
