We've been at war ever since FOX News was created to blind, befuddle and misdirect the American public. It didn't come about by accident. When its personalities go on the air they know full well they're lying. They completely understand that they are targeting their audience with deceit and yet they became the top cable "news" channel in America. That takes a lot of very high level help.
We've always been at war actually. After 1945 there was a temporary truce.
That truce broke down in the 1970s.
In 1979 the war began again with the rise of monetarism. Reagan's election in 1980 and his deregulation of broadcasting in his first term brought about the lying of FOX News that you speak of.
The only reason there was a truce of sorts after WWII is that they feared a repeat of what happened after the first world war, when returning soldiers feeling they were owes something for their service, rebelled against high unemployment and poverty.
While the story that you linked to focused on Wikileaks their dirty tricks campaign was much more widespread.
Thanks for the reminder about 1919. You know what I was just thinking? Over the last thirty years, the rich have gotten richer, the poor have gotten poorer, the middle class has been squeezed and it's shrunk, and so many chumps are still voting for people like Ford and listening to people like Limbaugh, and buying into the idea that leftists and poor people are responsible for their problems.
I used to hang around on rabble.ca's "babble" until May, 2006, and, since then, I've been found at www.enmasse.ca and www.breadnroses.ca. Even more lately, I've been at EnMasse, but also numerous blogs from the progressive side.
I'm sometimes rude to people and I've been accused of "schoolyard taunts," so, here's my schoolyard.
